The Mission of the Shrine

We seek to further the mission of Mary, the Theotokos, at the Mary Undoer of Knots Shrine located atop Mount Lemmon, Arizona by drawing people to the Beauty and Light of our Lord, Jesus Christ:

In the beauty of the Chapel’s Carpathian architecture and its interior symbolism that leaves one in awe—one often hears Mary say:
“Do whatever He says.”

By linking the beauty and freedom of God to our country’s history of freedom signified in the Shrine’s Bell Tower housing a Paul Revere Bell and its Veteran’s Memorial Ramada where one may honor our country’s veterans.

Through the Little Way that leads one to a beautiful light so lovely one cannot help but begin to desire with all one's heart to know the source of it.

WHAT ARE THE KNOTS WE ENCOUNTER?

They are the problems and struggles we face for which we do not see any solution:

  • The knots of discord in your family

  • The knots that create misunderstanding between parents and children

  • The knots of disrespect

  • The knots of violence

  • The knots of deep hurts between husband and wife

  • The absence of peace and joy at home

  • The knots of anguish and despair of separated couples

  • The dissolution of the family

  • The knots of a drug addict son or daughter

  • The knots of being sick or separated from home or God

  • The knots of alcoholism

  • The practice of abortion

  • The knots of depression

  • The knots of unemployment

  • The knots of fear

  • The knots of solitude

The knots of our life!

How they suffocate the soul, beat us down, betray the joy in our heart

and most of all....Separate us from God.

What is the Origin of this devotion to Mary Undoer of Knots?

The devotion to Mary as the Undoer of Knots is the earliest in Christendom, as it goes back to the early church father, St. Ireneaus, Bishop and Martyr (130-201). In his writing "Against Heresies" he stated: “…the knot of Eve’s disobedience was loosed by the obedience of Mary. For what the virgin Eve had bound fast through unbelief, this did the virgin Mary set free through faith.” (St. Ireneaus, Against Heresies, III.22.4)
